Report: Home solar panels result in sunny sales prices

Solar panels provide a solid rate of return in terms of home prices. With energy prices continuing to rise, many homeowners or potential buyers may be considering the use of home solar panels. A recent study by from the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that solar-powered homes in California had higher sale prices.According to the report, homes with an average-sized, relatively new photovoltaic system commanded a price premium of roughly $17,000 compared to other properties, generating a very strong rate of return for sellers.”These average sales price premiums appear to be comparable with the average investment that homeowners have made to install PV systems … and of course homeowners also benefit from energy bill savings,” said Ben Hoen, the lead author of the report. The report also said the inclusion of solar panels may also be useful for home builders who utilize them as a motivator to speed the sales process.Other energy-saving features may also be a priority for those looking at Houston homes. A poll conducted by ZipRealty last year found that the majority of homebuyers reported a home's energy efficiency was important in their decision to buy.Courtesy of 2M Realty News
