More retail jobs being added in Houston

Houston added a significant number of retail jobs during the past year.According to a recent article in the Houston Business Journal, the region has continued to add retail jobs during the last 12 months.Overall, just under 6,000 new retail positions were created in Houston during the 12-month period ending in July. This total trailed only Dallas-Fort Worth nationally in terms of creation, as the area added 7,200 jobs during the same timeframe, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.As of July, Houston had 266,800 retail-trade positions, up slightly from 260,900 during the year before.Through July, Providence, Rhode Island, recorded the largest percentage gain nationwide, adding 6.9 percent more retail jobs during the 12-month period. Overall, the region created 4,300 more retail positions.New York City had the largest total of retail jobs at the end of the period with 841,700, adding 4,200 during the 12 months prior to July.Due to an improved job sector, the Houston real estate market has continued to experience strong sales each month. In July, single-family home sales in the region grew by almost 17 percent from the previous year, the Houston Association of Realtors reports.Courtesy of 2M Realty News
